Just looking to get a build together and I have seen bad builds before.
Haven't done it before, but I am quite capable. Just worried about hardware interaction.

Solution
I personally havent used the Z97s BIOS, as I run an AM3+ platform, however I do use ASUS.
It has a UEFI BIOS, which is very easy to navigate and use. It is a solid board.

I've been told that the best bang for buck in the processor game is AMD FX series, and that although they aren't state of the art, their cache size, overclock capability and low cost make it a decent pick.
I haven't got the board or CPU yet, but I am nearly certain that is where I want to start.

Budget is <$1500, and I'm looking for performance, as I dabble in gaming a bit, but for the most part, reliability is key here.
Don't know that I want to dig into overclocking, or ramping up RAM speed, necessarily. Just wanted the ability, should I change my mind later.

FX processors really fall behind by current standards, no matter how much you OC this wont change.
Here is an example of something I would recommend, can be modified.
Change the CPU to a xeon 1231v3 and an ASRock H97 Pro4 to cut some costs while maintaining performance.
