Yesterday, I bought a new HITACHI 500GB 5400RPM 2.5" MOBILE SATA (HTS545050A7E380) hard drive for my Dell XPS M1330. When I remove the stock drive and replaced it with the newly bought drive, the drive is not detected and it was not showing in the BIOS. The stock drive was a Western Digital 250 GB. I tried plugging it in my desktop and I managed to install Windows 7 on it but when I plugged it in again to the laptop, its still undetected. I don't have anymore ideas on how to fix this and just thinking on returning the drive and get it replaced with another brand instead. Thanks!

Hey there, ClouD StrifE!

I'm sorry to see you struggle with such annoying issues in your computers! :( Can you please tell me which drive are you using for the OS in the laptop?
Even if you've installed the OS from the desktop, the drive won't be able to run (the OS) in the laptop. This is due to the fact that it's a different computer and you'd need a genuine Windows installation that will communicate with the laptop's motherboard. Since you've installed it on the HDD from your desktop, the drive would be able to boot in the desktop, but not on the laptop.

Keep me posted!

I installed a Windows 7 Ultimate from my desktop. I already exchanged the Laptop HDD that I bought to an external drive but thanks for your response though. A day after I bought the mobile HDD, I returned it to the store where I bought it and even bought my laptop to show them the problem and the technician even tried another drive that has the same brand from my stock (WD) but the unit still doesn't recognize it. Maybe the laptop has a storage limit? The stock HDD of my unit has the capacity of 250 GB while the ones that I bought has 500 GB. Could that be possible?

Hi again, ClouD StrifE!

It's highly unlikely for your laptop to have a storage limit like that. I'd recommend you to get in touch with the technical support of your computer's manufacturer and let them know about the issues you are encountering. I believe they'd have an explanation to why this is happening and would be able to suggest you other troubleshooting methods to resolve your issue.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful.
