What could be causing my new system to freeze?

I have recently built a new system using a Gigabyte 990FXA UD3 Rev 4.1 motherboard, AMD FX9590 processor, AMD Radeon R9 Fury X, Corsair dominator platinum 32GB DDR3 memory (4x8GB), SanDisk SSD Plus 240GB, and a new 1000W EVGA power supply (80+gold). I also have a Logitech G510 keyboard and Corsair M65 mouse.

The system seems to operate properly, but when I launch a game or run BurnInTest for several minutes, it locks up entirely. All inputs and outputs become unresponsive.

I have installed the latest Windows 10 drivers for all of these components. I've tried switching out the components with some older components that I had on another system which were working as expected. I have reproduced the freeze after replacing the graphics card, memory, and power supply. Incidentally, I have also installed Windows 10 and Windows 7 OS and I have confirmed the freeze occurs on both OSes. Also, I have monitored the system temperature with HWMonitor and the temperatures seem fine (CPU 35°C, System 33°C, SSD 28°C, etc)

Do you have any idea what troubleshooting steps I can take to narrow down or pinpoint the problem?

Thanks!

UPDATE: The following thread helped provide some additional troubleshooting steps: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2643755/9590-causing-system-freeze.html

After disabling the Turbo setting in the BIOS for the FX9590 processor, the system has stabilized and has not locked up since. There are additional instructions for overclocking, but Turbo mode seems to be the cause here. (Maybe I'll experiment with overclocking in the future.)

Hmm, I can't help but notice that you are running a 220W TDP CPU on what appears to be a 140W TDP rated motherboard. This is possibly what is causing your system to lock up when under load. While you may be able to run stably at idle the motherboard will not be able to supply more/higher Voltage to the CPU as it becomes under load and self overclocks to 5.0Ghz. This is also most likely your problem since you have gone through all the trouble with different hardware and software to debug this problem with no avail.. I would possibly look into trying another motherboard that is rated at a 220 TDP or specifically supports 'FX-9XXX' series CPUs.

That's just my two cents...

Rev 4.0 or 4.1 support FX 9590 since they changed the VRM heatsink.

"Rev 4.0 or 4.1 support FX 9590 since they changed the VRM heatsink."

Hmm, both the GA-990FXA-UD3 4.0 and 4.1 reversions 'should' support the FX-9xxx CPUs.. If the motherboard wasn't the culprit I would ponder about the PSU although in ntahfs's case I would find very unlikely since the rig is using a known brand 1000W 80+ Gold PSU...

I think that this is is incorrect. I am using the same motherboard and the same CPU. This motherboard, GA-990FXA-UD3 (and UD5) is supporting 220W CPU's with BIOS version F3 and above. I experience similar freezes, only while playing multi media like youtube under Chrome and Firefox. CPU is not overclocked. It is very interesting because this happens only under Windows 10. I am running multiple OS on the same PC, from different SSD's. I am running also Win 7 Ultimate and Linux Mint 17... freezes are occurring only under Windows 10. I don't know what is the problem, but it is been reported as being an incompatibility between Chrome and Windows 10. I also ran Prime 95... all cores go to 100% load, temps reach 70C, the CPU is cooled by a Thermaltake water cooler, system does not freeze under load. So it is not the load. I dont think its core voltage that is too low either..... though automatic, core voltage is in the 1.51V ish.. so it is not too low. Very strange.
