How to tell if my CPU or GPU has gone bad?

I play arma 3 and I should get 25 fps on ultra settings but i'm getting 25 on all LOW setting.s.

anything I can do to test to make sure they're ok ? I bought 2 fans that went out on me, and thinking maybe it's a overheatin issue.

I also get a dxgi_error_device_removed error on my gpu when playing arma sometimes...idk what that is.

I have a amd 8 core 3.5 ghz cpu / gtx 660 / 8 gb ram

yea case fans, i have 1 top / 1 back atm...other 2 went out on me, i had to grab a fan out of my closet to blow air in it, didn't know my other 2 died until i check 2 days ago. when i put that other fan in, it did seem to help out my lag a little bit from just 1 fan

I use 1920x1080 res, would lowering it help out my fps ?

also I get that error device removed error like once every 2 hours when playin arma 3.

i was gonna buy a new cpu cooler, but didnt' want to spend more money on my stuff, if theres something wrong with my cpu or gpu.

when I go to first person in arma and start shooting, i'll get a small lag spike...not smooth enough to not blame lag if i die from a gun battle.

i was gonna wait until my fans came in to try a benchmark test(i dont know much about or how to do these)to see if theres any errors, will benchmark test let me know if theres something wrong?

I've had this computer for 10 months and i don't lag in CS GO

wouldnt the cpu and gpu declock itself and slow the system down in order to keep it from over heating?

i think im gonna wait for my fans to come in on tuesday to benchmark them, but i will check the temps tonight when I game with hwinfo or w/e the program is and i'll get back and let ya know the temps. i'll screenshot the entire temp thingy.

also can u check to see if my HDD stats look good or bad?

what does my internet speeds say also? i get good speeds, didn't see those speeds in the stats.

Based on what you provided...those temps are totally normal and very good. I haven't overclocked a AMD fx cpu but is the voltage ok? What is your cpu cooler?

HDD temps are fine. Forget about internet speeds.

I suggest monitoring the gpu and cpu in games. I use Open Hardware Monitor. It will plot stats from the last few hours of use.

what do you mean? hwinfo provides low/max/average temps? i kept it up the entire time....is my temps are fine, then what else do i need to do?

so why am i lagging on arma 3 ? i dont lag on csgo at all.....

I was told I should get 25 fps on ultra, i get 25 fps on all LOW settings on arma....on ultra i lag like shit, not smooth at all.....

should i run benchmark test on my gpu/cpu ?

I use the stock cpu cooler, i thought about getting a evo cpu cooler but i didn't want to invest $$ into my computer if my cpu or gpu is burned up or broken for some odd reason....built this computer almost a year ago

What is your specific CPU, mobo, and PSU?

Go ahead and run a GPU test and see how it goes. If Open Hardware Monitor is running in the background then you can check temps, frequencies, fan speeds, and more. Just click View > Show Plot. Then choose which variables you want to see. Great thing to play with and monitor.
Second use MSI Afterburner. It works with all GPUs. Use it to monitor your fps and framerates, as well as all other GPU variables.

mobo is asus m5a97 le r2.0

cx 500

gtx 660

amd 8 core 3.5 ghz cpu

my 3 fans should be here on monday or tuesday. i plan to do all my test when i put them in to decide if somethings wrong

was gonna try the stuff from that site

A new cooler will not solve the problem of bad fps unless your cpu is very hot. The error you reported means that you graphics card has become loose or unseated. A poorly fitted graphics card would cause no end of problems. Are you sure you did not nudge it when checking on your broken fans?

I would do it now. When you're there check to see if the RAM is properly seated and all cables are properly connected. The GPU may be fine but it is worth checking even if to rule it out. Be careful in there, If your set up is anything like mine it is quite delicate.

Stop bumping. U said you were gonna run a test with new fans. Report back to us after you have done so, and after you checked to make sure GPU is seated correctly. And....one more...add a better cpu cooler but that shouldn't be the reason for horrid fps.

Is it a 8320? If so you could add a cheap cooler and push for 4.1GHz.

I bumped, because you didn't respond to the thread after i posted my specs. didn't know if telling u my specs would change your opinion on how my pc should be running.

I pushed in the cable/gpu down on my mobo and i'm not getting the device removed error anymore(thank god)

but in arma 3, if i start shooting my gun i get a small lag spike, which is AWFUL cause if i lag during a gun fight, which I did about 30 minutes ago, i killed 1 guy, went for the other, lagged and died and the past hour and half I was gathering items and lost all of it from dying from 2 cops....

that upset me so much, i could of killed both of them easily but i freaking had a lag spike and lost all my stuff and died to these 2 cops(out of all of them on the server, i have a personal beef with those 2) and they prob laughed the entire time after killing me...zzz

i'll put my fans in tomorrow when they arrive, and start runnign those test. I hope this problem can be fixed.....i should be able to run the game on all low setting pretty smooth right?

Is your 660s drivers up to date? If so, you could also try rolling back to prior version to see if that is better. But it is weird you are getting the lag. Is it caused by the internet? If you are using wifi and far from source that can be slow. How to check: http://www.speedtest.net/ Run that site. You should have Ping under 10 and down/up at maybe 50/10.

I'm on ethernet cable, with 250 DL/25 Upload speeds.

I use nvidida geforce experience for my drivers, i don't lag at all on CS:GO.....

i'll do all of those test from that website tomorrow...my HDD couldn't be the problem for having lag spikes could it?(if anything my HDD is old and formatted a lot)

on low settings, i won't lag much, i'll get a heavy spike like once every 30-45 minutes unless i start to shoot my gun and it doesnt lag every single time i shoot it, just maybe 1/3 of the time? i get around 30 fps on low settings

I was thinking i should be able to have at leas high or very high settings while playing, but lag on all low? idk why it does it....

How should I setup my fans for best cooling? I have choices of 1 BACK|2 TOP|1 BOTTOM|2 SIDE|2 FRONT

I have 1 in the back/1 in the top at the moment.(both pulling air)

I have 3 fans that just arrived. I want to have negative pressure right?

So I would want 1 of these fans pulling air and the other 2 bringing air in?

2 in the front pulling air in and the other on top pulling air out?

or 1 front/1 bottom pulling air in and 1 on the side pushing air out?
