Hello everyone.
I have a problem which appeared out of the blue. Can you help me please?
I will try to organise my post as much as possible. I tried to be at length to ease troubleshooting as much as possible.

[My Rig]
At least 4 years old
ASUS motherboard P755D-E Deluxe (no integrated graphics listed in Windows)
Intel i7 860
Nvidia Geforce 465 with official Nvidia drivers 353.06 when problem occurred. They were installed in June and I had no problem with them before. Only Graphic Pilot + PhysX + HD Audio installed (no Nvidia Experience nor 3D vision pilots)
8Go of RAM (Corsair if I remember correctly)
SSD + HD
Two 22" screens
Windows 7 Pro 64bits

[Status] Unresolved
*Black screen without cursor after normal boot, once arrived on Windows login screen, after whichever Nvidia pilots are installed.

*Secondary issue: Asus Smartdoctor not loading "Can't load dll". Unknown if symptom, cause or even related to main problem

[What happened]
I was watching Youtube videos this morning like anyone else when suddenly my computer completely froze (could not move mouse, change window, all screen froze). I waited a few seconds, then ctrl+alt+suppr and the computer rebooted. I do not know if the reboot is a consequence of this or just a coincidence.

The computer rebooted with the same usual delay, I saw the BIOS, Windows 7 logo (windows is starting blablabla). But then, when it blacked before going for the login screen, it stayed black. I can hear the Windows start jingle, I can blindly type my password and hear that it logs in normally.

But both screens stay black.

What is puzzling me is that this problem happened completely out of the blue! This computer has ran with near to 0 problems for years.

[Attempts]
*After reset, I could get in Safe Mode -> the screen goes on normally and I can work my way.
So I immediately suspect there must be an issue with the drivers somehow.

Using the Windows uninstall tool, I uninstalled the Nvidia graphic pilot successfully. Reboot in normal mode -> Hurrah the main screen stays alive. With a 600x800 resolution but it works.

I discover upon login that there is another issue: Asus SmartDoctor (software for hardware monitoring) "cannot load dll files" and quits. I do not know if it is the cause of the problem, if it is another symptom or something else entirely. But it started after the initial crash.

Anyway, I went back to the drivers, downloaded latest Nvidia drivers 353.62, I install them with success, reboot and wham black screen again.

*Upon this, did the same as previously: Safe mode, uninstall drivers, reboot in normal mode. I tried installing the drivers from before the crash, same problem again.

[Potential solutions? Taking in account multiple Google researches]
*According to some topics, the issue could be due to a conflict between the GPU and the Mobo integrated graphics and offers a solution.
I do not think this is the issue, since this issue happened completely out of the blue during normal conditions and not after an installation, an upgrade, a patch or whatever. Plus the fact that there are no "Integrated graphics" whatsoever listed in the System list (when right click on "Computer" and "propriety" and "components management"(?) not sure of the exact English name since I am not on a English version of Windows).

*Could it be simply that my Nvidia 465 has died? Is there a way to check this without touching to the hardware?

I will keep on digging the problem as much as I can and update this topic. If my eyes do not die with the 600x800 resolution. Thank you for reading, I hope you have some ideas!

PS: This happens of course just a few hours before going to a weekend long LAN with friends and my three week long holidays which started yesterday xD

Up :p

So one weird thing happened this morning, when I booted my computer I thought it would go black since Windows had automatically installed drivers.

However, I had the normal resolution login! So I was thinking "hurray it is alive", typed my password and then wham the PC froze, rebooted and the black screen issue is back at the previous state.

Back to the drawing board I guess.

So A friend of mine was able to lend me a card so I could do the test.

I install it, load the drivers etc, reboot nicely, play a bit to be sure and it works.

And then I connect my 2nd screen and bam it gets black on login! I disconnect the 2nd screen, reboot and it works again.
So actually it seems my 2nd screen screws up the setting, how is that possible ?
