Hey guys, I've used tom's hardware for a long time to find answers about issues I have had, but this is something that I really haven't found a comprehensive answer to.

So I recently had a massive motherboard failure, my AMD 970 performance's mosfets (top 2 to be exact) completely melted and almost started a fire in my computer. So I asked Asrock to send me a replacement and they obliged. I got my new motherboard and I threw together a prelim build outside the case. You know, the normal schpeel, cpu, memory, heatsink, vga, and tried to boot and it wont post.

This scared me, the motherboard is brand new, so I was wondering if the problem could be because of a damaged cpu or could it be because of psu? What do you guys recommend I do?

Rig Details:
Fx6300
AsRock 970 Performance
Gskill sniper memory 2x8gb
Msi Gtx 960
WD black 1tb
500watt evga motherboard

Oh man, they sent it to me in a blank white box, no bios rev. anywhere. Any ideas on how I could check since I'm getting no post.

Right now I'm trying to go through every possible point of failure, I narrowed it down to either cpu or psu. I'm going to a friend's house to check if the psu can power on and run his system and then see if his psu posts my system. Good thing I still have warranty on cpu and psu.

Yeah there's some, If i can't isolate the problem myself then I'll just give it to them.

the only reason I'm holding off is because they would charge me for labor and parts that are already covered by warranty. The rig is only 7 months old.
