Hello guys,

I have been searching quite a lot about building your own pc, and many times I got to this site, reading many helpfull comments, so I decided to give it a try and ask my questions here myself.

I am currently running my first custom build pc:

Mobo: MSI 970 Gaming
CPU: AMD FX-6300 on 4.1 Ghz watercooled
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 280X Gaming 3GB
RAM: 2x8 GB Kingston HyperX Red Fury
PSU: 600Watt OCZ GXS600

Two notes:

The CPU was intended to be a normal FX=6300. When I recieved my parts I found a FX-6300 Black Edition box in my package, but Windows does not name it that way, it just says "AMD FX-6300 Six-core processor." I am still not completely sure wether it is a Black Edition or a normal one, so if some one can tell me how I can tell what it is that would be great!

I got my PSU second hand for a few euro's, I intended to use it for a few months, and then get a better one. I just did not know which one was good, and after some research I still could not decide. Do you guys think this PSU will still suffice? Or should I really get something new?

I am looking forward to hearing from you guys!

The OCZ GXS600 is made by FSP and is at best average in quality. It meets the power requirements for your system. If you plan to overclock the cpu / gpu you may want to get something bigger. If not, and it is in good working order, you can continue using the one you have. If you want to upgrade check the PSU tier list (link in this reply box) and choose from tier 1 or 2.

The Black Edition is just a marketing trick to make it sound more cool. It's the same thing as the normal FX 6300, so don't worry about that. Yes, it should work for a few months. Just try to upgrade when you can.

I would get an XFX PSU, EVGA B2, G2, and GS PSUs, or SeaSonic PSUs. Antec's are also good but make sure you get the High Current series.

So as long as I stick to these brands I'll be allright?

Then I came up with another question, may be you could help me with that too. I tried OC'ing my FX, now it's running at what is actually it's turboboost speed. When I go any higher as 4.1 Ghz, my pc does not work completely like it should. It is a little more instable, but strange enough the Windows Aero theme just stops, and changes to basic. Any idea how to fix this?

Does that mean that as long as it keeps running, even when overclocked, it won't really damage my components? Because I have also heard that if you use a lesser quality PSU your components won't last as long. The PSU I am using currently seems to be quite old, about six years old.

Then I'll try and find one from the list you posted. Thanks for the help and the replies both of you!

So now I was looking at this list you posted, and I ended up with 2 PSU's: The EVGA SuperNOVA G2 750 Watts, and the EVGA SuperNOVA G1 650 Watts. My pc will use about 500 watts when fully loaded, according to those calculators on the internet, so I would say that I should stick to 650 Watts. The difference in price tho is just 15 euros, so I am doubting what I should do, and also if this even is the right choise looking at the wattage my pc uses and the wattage the PSU provides.
