Hi,
I never check my CPU temp but couple of days ago I anyhow installed the HWMonitor application and it is showing my cpu core temperature at 90-100. The temperature under load whilst playing need for speed rivals on ultra settings 1440X900 resolution are as follows:

Core 0- 100
Core 1- 96
Core 2- 91
Core 3- 91

I have Core 2 Quad Q6600 processor and I've not overclocked it. I'm running it on stock speed @2.40GHZ.I don't know but the games are okay in FPS it's just temp is above safe limits I guess.
I checked it's safety limits it is TJ MAX 100 degrees Celsius and cpu is G0 stepping.

I would like to ask what could be the reasons of so high temperature? I've cleaned the dust inside the cabinet and everything is clean. by the way I'm running Stock Intel Cooler which comes with core 2 quads.

Please help me to bring down the temperature to safe limits before I damage the cpu.

Regards.

Those old processors do run hot.
Look at your temperatures when idling at the desktop.
If they are more than 15c. over ambient, then there is something wrong with your cooler mount.

Check to see that the cooler does not wiggle if you nudge it.
See if all 4 pushpin are through the motherboard and licked.
It is tricky to install the stock cooler well.

Take the case covers off and see how much that helps. If that fixes your problem, you have a case cooling issue.

Do not worry much about damage, the cpu will downclock or shut off to prevent damage.

Yeah those Cpu temperature are getting pretty high,

the first thing I would try is to re-apply thermal paste, so thoroughly clean the top of the Cpu, and the bottom of the heatsink ( with high % IsoPropyl alcohol ), and then put about a grain of rice size bit of thermal paste on the Cpu and put the cooler back on.
Also while the Cpu cooler is off, you may want to make sure it is dusk free.

Are these near 100 degree temps at full load?

Yes, these temperatures are at 100% load. Should I clean the top of cpu also with isopropyl alcohol?

I don't know bro, I never saw inside the cpu cooler. The inside is untouched, the rigmaker touched the cpu socket area last time 4 years back. I don't know much about how we assemble the cpu coolers on top of CPU? can you tell me the steps?

What can I use to remove the dried thermal paste? by fingers or something else. I'll take a look at the inside of cooler tomorrow, I'll first get a thermal paste before removing the cpu cooler

Remove the CPU cooler clean the top of the chip and the bottom of the CPU cooler and reapply thermal paste.

Nope, Removing the case cover doesn't help in decreasing the temp. They are above 90 C in full load.

The Cpu cooler will either be screwed on, or it will be a clip, that in each four corners you push down on. All you need to do it either unscrew or undo the clips ( the are undone by twisting with a screwdriver ), you done need to take the fan off of the heatsink of the cpu out of its socket. Be Careful to ground yourself on a radiator or something first.

To put it back in you either screw it back in or push the clips back in.

I'll do that but could the 90 degrees Celcius+ temp damage the cpu?

Thanks a lot, I will do what you have said and will update here after that.
