Safe Mode XP pro causes computer to reboot

Must be malware causing reboot loop ?
Is there a Windows XP Pro repair that does not require safe mode and Windows CD ?
Problem: When entering safe mode, the drivers start loading, then there is a pause, but then the DELL splash screen flashes, and the boot process starts over again. This continues until computer is shut off and normal startup is executed. Normal startup is ok.

Check event viewer and see if anything is crashing. Very odd that Safe Mode does not work when normal boot does. Did you scan for a virus or spyware already? Would be easier to just do that rather than asking if you should.

You can't run a repair setup without a disk.

Did you try different RAM?

I acquired a DELL xp sp3 reinstallation CD, an attempted a repair. The repair aborted because it could not find, of all things, an Acronis file. That was the last straw, so I did a clean install.
