Building my first PC so highly possible Im missing something simple!

PC powers on and CPU fan and Case fan spin fine, GPU fan starts then slows and stops after a couple of minutes at most. I've had a hunt through the forums here and tried the following to no avail:

  • Setting up out side of the case
Re - insetting all the components and checking the connections

Any ideas gratefully received its driving me coo coo!

I'm not even sure if the fans need to be running at all times? The windows install screen loads up without an issue but I'm a little concerned about cooking the GPU...

Build:

GIGABYTE Z97X SLI motherboard
Palit gtx 970 jetstream gpu
intel i5 processor
superflower leadex 80w power supply
2 x 8 corsair vengence ram

Yes, as others have said, "It's suppose to do that."

My 2009 Dell XPS i7 940 desktop computer (which I plan to replace with an X99/5930K system soon) with it's upgraded GTX 650 Ti video card does that every time I start it up and then goes silent. It did the same with my old GTX 550 Ti before that, and the same with my original Radeon before that.

It takes more power all at once to get the graphics card going... kind of like starting a car where the car battery has to put out a lot of energy to get it going. The fans are just making sure it stays cool as it hit it's stride. Once stable the fans go off until you do something that stresses the card more, such has during heavy gaming you might hear the fans kick in again to cool the card.
