Club 3D radeon hd 6970 coolstream edition wont post

I just bought a new gpu as an update for my mid-gaming rig after replacing my pc wont post and boot anymore (1 long 2 short beeps) the card needs 1 8 pin and 1 6 pin power cable, since my psu only has 1 6 pin i used 2 molex - 8 pin adapter.
When i place my old 5670 in its working fine.

Mobo - msi 870a-g54
Gpu - club 3d radeon HD 6970 coolstream edition
Cpu - amd phenom II b75 3cores @3.8 ghz
Psu - 550 watts
ram - 2x 4 gb kingston hyper x 1333 mhz

Please help

1 long, 2 short beeps on this particular mobo, indicates a video error has occurred and the bios cannot display any video to give more information about the issue

Things to do:
Check online - See if others have got the same problem
Check you manual - the problem should be explained in more detail
Contact MSI - if all else fails, resort to this

yes that could be the case, many molex to 8 pins have short life spans!! Or maybe even not supply enough power
