I just started to learn about computers and want to learn more by building my first rig.

This question get's asked so many times with different answers.. and I just get more confused...

i7 4790k or i7 5820k?

What I'm going to use this pc for is..

1080p gaming while streaming on twitch.
I want to learn how to do video editing and 3d modeling.
Photoshop.
Writing programs.
Ripping back up blurays.

I ALWAYS get told 2 different things and the vote comes out even...

4790k: cheaper build and already overclocked. But I heard it can't play 1080p while streaming on twitch without overworking the peocessor.

5820k: more cores better for video editing but not sure how much I need... but people say it's overkill and it's a much more expensive build.

I'm torn on this issue that has been asked WAY TOO MANY times.. but it's hard to decide when most of the time it's an even answer...

I have OCD like problems and have trouble deciding which is the reason why I'm asking..

Will the cheaper option be enough and is the more expensive option worth it?

It really depends on the budget of your build,

Consider getting an i7 6700k skylake CPU, it has a 14nm lithogrophy

For streaming either of them are great and for gaming I would go with a 6700k

If you do not plan to professionally render and 3d model as a job then you don't need anything better than a 6700k

What is your entire budget? I could put together an entire PC on pcpartpicker.com for you.

I have no clue.
Like I said I'm a noob.

I want to build a good pc that can do..

Play 1080p setting's while streaming on twitch without the cpu overworking itself.

Video editing

Last me a good while

Im sort of on a budget but if I have to...
Then $1,000 to $2,000?

I just don't want to build a pc and end up getting buidlers remorse and having to build a new one later.

4790k is a really fast cpu. The actual difference between 4790k and 6700k is not even gonna show. As for live streaming, there is no way the cpu will be bottlenecking your performance. If 4790k does though, the same will happen to 6700k. 5820 is more futureproof, but, that does come at a premium. It also only supports the more expensive ddr4 ram.

He is at 1080p, he doesn't need such a high end gpu. There is no 10-20% more performance between 6700 and 4790, they are about the some, with either of them winning in some cases by small percentages (1 or 2 %) http://www.anandtech.com/show/9483/intel-skylake-review-6700k-6600k-ddr4-ddr3-ipc-6th-generation/16 As you can see even the very old 4770 wich is a downclocked 4790k scores some wins against 6700k. Do not mistake me, it is not a bad cpu, but it is a new product and you pay a premium which is not worth it.

If you tell us for how long you plan to use that PC, it will be easier to decide whats better for you. But I can already tell you that a 5820K build wouldnt be that much more expensive. Only like $100 to 200 more, but it would last MUCH longer than a 4C/8T CPU, especially because the multithread support in games is about to change drastically.

I would say that the 5820K is worth the premium if you can afford it. Most of the things you are doing can take advantage of more cores like photoshop. For gaming, streaming and 3d rendering, they can be ofloaded to the gpu as it is better. Obviously it will depend on what software you stream with but a good gpu and shadowplay should be enough for this task.

I agree that he doesn't need one for 1080p but you said that the difference wont be noticeable but If he is apending 1000-2000 he could fit a 980ti in there where the difference would be quite massive, even a 1440p or 144htz monitor as well.

look at these benchmarks, it demolishes.

7 to 15 frames out of 100 is in no way a demolishion. These as well are not benchamarks but a single game. There is even no reference to the type of ram the skylake cpu uses. 5820k is a much better choice and is worth the extra cash. 6700k is still new and expensive.

the 6700k is about the same price as the 4790k just a bit more. And the motherboards for it are not that much more and have some cool features, It won't cost him that much more but there are some pretty big performance boosts. The 5820k will cost way more and is a lot worse for gaming. even worse than the 4790k. For streaming the 6700k will be PERFECTLY fine and a 5820k would see no improvement.

The gains to a 6700k from 4790k are substantial at best. Only when going with ddr4 ram you are going to see big improvements, which is currently expensive/pricier than ddr3. 6700k is worth it, but not now. Maybe when the prices go down. Εven a 4770 should be enough.
