I am getting frame drops in games with a decent set up and I have come to the conclusion that it is the CPU not being well optimized for he GPU. I have just recently bought A new motherboard for AMD chipset and can not buy another processor and motherboard. I have around $200 to spend. What CPU would work best with this GPU and setup?? It needs to be an upgrade from the 8350.

My rig:

Mobo - MSI 970 gaming

CPU - AMD FX-8350

CPU cooler - Hyper evo 212

case - Fractal design R4 Blackout

PSU - rosewill stallion series 700w modular

GPU - EVGA GTX 970 SSC

HDD - Western Digital Blue WD5000

RAM - 8GB (4 x 2gb) Corsair Vengance Red 1333 mhz

Before going with an other cpu, you could try overclocking yours and see if there is any difference. Any other fx 8xxx cpu is the same as yours, with different clock speeds. 8350 could easily reach 4.5-4.6 ghz on your mobo. (about 9370 performance)

The only thing then is to jump to an intel cpu. Are you sure you cpu is the bottleneck though? Have you monitored cpu against gpu usage? Also, on what game do you see the framedrops?

you could get a 9590 but your going to have to buy a new mobo, but for that price you could get a i5 ann mobo for the same price if not less

At what resolution? Does your gpu usage max out or it stays below 95%-100? I do have an 8320 at 4.7ghz and do not see any stuttering in these games. Is your turbo disabled? What about APM?

Turbo is disabled, and GPU usage stays lower than that. around 60 percent in GTA. 1200p.

Does your cpu run at the full frequency always? If apm is not disabled, it is going to throttle to 4ghz occasionaly to stay within tdp limits. At 1080p i see above 45 fps at all times with gta v with full gpu usage. ( 280x oc 1.2 gpu/6600 ram, not as good as a 970, but fares well)

I have been limiting FPS to 60. I want to get rid of the bottleneck not ignore it.

If you are in the mood, you could download and run OCCT. This should show if your cpu runs at max frequency and if your oc is stable. If it does run at max though, and you want to have no bottleneck, you sould buy intel. Preferably i5 4690 or better

Yes, CPU will drop about 100 mhz every now and then but maintains the clock speed, This was happening before I oc too

If it does drop, this could cause stuttering. Anyway, I cannot send you any link, as I do not know about prices where you live. (here in greece the cpu price only, surpasses your budget) I think other guys will be willing to help you. :)
