Sorry to hear about the problems you're having with the drive. What error message do you get when you try to open it? Do you need to recover data from that drive? Do you hear any unusual sounds/noises coming from it when it's connected? Have you had any issues with the HDD prior to this problem? Would you please check what it says about the drive in Disk Management and post a screenshot of what you see there (you can use imgur.com to upload the image). First, I'd recommend that you try the drive with a different USB cable (preferably shorter than 12") and a different computer, to see if the same thing happens. If you still have no luck and you don't want to recover data, I'd suggest that you download DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostics), and run both tests (Quick and Extended), to see what's the situation with the drive. Here's how to do that: How to test a drive for problems using Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows.
