Should I get an external sound card for gaming?

I just built a gaming pc & I do a lot of gaming on it (obviously lol). It's a very small build so the motherboard couldn't fit an internal sound card, but I'm wandering if I should even get a sound card at all. I just ordered the HyperX Cloud 2, but I really don't like the small sound card it includes. As I said I mostly play games & do some light video editing. I would like to have the best sound experience I can while gaming (for a reasonable price). Does anyone know if a good sound card will help? I mostly play fps so hearing where gunshots are coming from is important. If you do think I should get one, does anyone have any recommendations for around $100?? Thank you very much!!

So you would recommend that one over the Xonar U7? The reason I ask is just bc I have seen a lot of people talk about the U7.
