GPU is getting hot during gameplay

I just built my first gaming rig and for the GPU I have a R9 VaporX 290. The only game it seems to have trouble with is the Witcher3. After about an hour of game play on ultra settings it starts to get near 82c. Is that normal or do I need to invest more into cooling?

Solution

That's because, according the info provided on your profile, you run a GeForce card. These cards are designed for low power consumption while also being quite cool cards (compared to AMD). The R9 300 and 200 series are designed to run at high temps and some are even designed to run at 95 C.
Of course, I would also agree that more cooling is in order :)

yes, sorry, i did not mean to compare what i have against his directly.
what i mean is, if you can lower the temp without spending too much, why not.

personally low 70's is ok. 60's would be better. don't get me wrong, used to own 8800gt and that card can fry an egg :)

Okay so my rig is in a corsair 750D case. It came with the back exhaust fan and the two front ones. Along with that I added 3 top exhaust fans and one bottom intake fan. Besides jumping to liquid cooling (heard it is a hassle with the card I have) idk what to do besides stack another two fans on the front intake fans.

Try turning up the speed on your case fans and/or GPU heatsink fans and see how much of a temperature improvement that gives you.
