ASRock Z97 Extreme3 No Display to Monitor after RAM upgrade

I have a z97 build and I recently decided to make two upgrades. First, I wanted to add an internal card for an additional USB 3.0 header (for a card reader), and I wanted to add another 8GB RAM stick. The first time I tried to install the PCI-E USB card, the computer would turn on (case fans spinning, no display, no power to keyboard, mouse light blinks if you click but other than that no power.)

No issues when I took the card out, but the same thing happened when I tried to put in the extra RAM stick. I tried to put the RAM in every available slot and it didn't work with either than them. It's not the RAM stick since I plugged the stick I've been using into the other slots and it didn't work. I'm confused as to what could be happening, any advice? I've tried resetting CMOS, tried both RAM sticks in the working slot (both work) and RAM upgrade without additional USB header, USB header without additional RAM, nothing is working. Most posts on here point to CMOS, but since it's not that could there be anything else I should try before writing it off as a bad mobo?

Hi,
I'm Davis from ASRock HQ TSD.

According to the information you posted, the system cannot boot up after installing another memory and USB3.0 front panel.
We provide few ways for you to verify.
1.Please refer below link to clear CMOS again. http:// (see P.18 in user manual)
2.Please only install one memory(original memory and new memory) to every DIMM for try.
3.Please check whether the pins bent in CPU socket.
4.For system stable, we recommend to use identically memory for every DIMM.
5.Please change another CPU, memory and USB front panel for verify.
If the symptom still exist, please refer below link to contact local distributor or dealer for further physical checking.

Thanks a lot !!

G. Skill FAQs:

Q:
I want to install more memory, in addition to my existing memory kit. What are my options?

A:
We do not recommend mixing memory kits, regardless of brand or model.

By mixing memory kits together, there may be compatibility issues such as unable to boot or unable to operate at rated specifications.

Each of our memory kit are thoroughly tested to ensure compatibility within each memory kit. And because we have not tested our memory kit with your existing memory kit, we cannot guarantee compatibility when multiple kits are used.

Awesome, thanks for the response. Once I get back from work I'll follow some of the steps posted here. For clarification, the 8GB of RAM I'm putting in the second slot is the same as the existing one (and both are working, can use either in the working slot). The system boots (power to fans, but no power to keyboard and no display on monitor) but I can get it to boot again by switching back to one stick of ram or not adding the additional USB in the PCIe slot.
