Hi there Atharva_2001,

This is a really unpleasant situation. :(
Unfortunately, I should agree with the other guys and say that in case the data stored on the drive is really important, you will need to contact a data recovery company if you want to retrieve it.
You can check WD's Data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=csuSck

Hope this will help,

If the data is important then you need to pay for professional data recovery.

There is a WD rep floating around who'll be able to give advice.

From me - the drive is probably dead. It isn't initialising, so professional data recovery is almost certainly your only way out.

Moral of the story: backup your data.

So, it's been a long time since i posted the query, I have now actually bought a new hard drive, exactly the same model. now for side by side comparison i had connected my new HDD to my laptop, well it spins almost similar to the old broken one, a little fast i guess. however the old hard disk gives a small beep every two minutes or so and my disk manager just hangs if i tried to open it with my old hard disk connected, also i can say that the data which i had on my old hard drive was not that important.
