is keyboard lighting up (Caps Lock, Num Lock, etc)?
Check manual, make sure "DEL" key is correct key to enter Bios (~95% of mobos use DEL, but not all)

Was pc working before? Did you change something? Power surge, power loss??

Hi,

With that kind of problem, I would strip the pc to minimum :

try to boot from onboard gpu if available, 1 stick of ram keyboard and mouse to see if you are getting the trouble.

If problem persist, unplug the hard drive to see if you can access BIOS.

Most likely the hard drive is having problem thus blocking BIOS.

Sry dextermat i wrongly picked ur solution as the best.I tried what u said with no luck even with both hdd unplugged i get the same problem. As regarfs the keyboard when i turn on the pc i dont see any lights only when i press the speciffic keys i can see the leds on keyboard but on the black screen i cant press anything. And yes 100% the del key is the key for bios.

Moreover pressing the del key on the post screen says preparing bios setup and then i see the black screen with the cursor. The only keys that work are tab del and caps num and scroll lock.I also tried cmos reset with no luck,i used ps2 adapter for my usb keaboard same result

it sounds like it actually sees the keyboard command "DEL", and starts to respond, but then hangs - is that correct? If so, sounds like a possible mobo problem, although if I had an extra psu, I would substitute it as an easy test (would NOT buy one)

Did you change anything recently? Was pc running before??

Thats exactly what happens.I dont have a spare psu to test i changed the psu i had a 500w psu grom the shop i assembled the pc back in 2009.I changed it to a 400w psu.Mu hdd's (one 40 gb and one 500gb) are from another computer and the os that installed on the 40gb hdd is from another pc with different components.the 500gb hdd is the normal hdd.The os is windows xp home edition 32bit

Well with all you tried, I would say it could be a PSU problem, but most likely a defective motherboard.

I usually had a black cursor or not going into BIOS because of a defective hard drive and unplugging it would fix the problem.

If you keep 1 memory stick, keyboard mouse and onboard GPU and you cannot get into BIOS, it's most likely a motherboard problem and needs to be replaced.

You could plug you hard drive in another computer to see if it's still good

So there is 2 things to do test a bigger psu (500w) see what happens maybe the system doesnt get enough wattage because previously i used a 500w and now a 400 w.The other thing is to get a new mobo. The hdd's work perfectly on another machine and on the post they are recognizable.
