So I noticed I'm getting random ping spikes. Some hours it's fine and other it isn't. I ran a continuous ping of router ip and it seemed to be stable. So what is the problem? that's what I need to know, is it other people using the Internet in my house?, I don't have a separate router, everyone uses the same.

Do your wires run near anything that can potentially be causing electronic interference? A generator? Other wires? etc.? Are there kinks in the wire? It seems odd considering it's electricity, but if there are really bad kinks in the wire it's like bending a garden hose...

Are you using wireless? If so, try to find a source of interference. It could be anything from someone using the microwave, to cell phone interference, to your air conditioning running. If you live close enough to other people, their electronics could cause interference as well.

Try changing your wireless device's channel. There should be about 11 channels to choose from, and each one is going to operate at a slightly different frequency. These are available so that overlapping wireless transmissions cause as little interference as possible.
