Streaming with OBS on Windows 10 any game goes to 100% cpu usage

Hi there,

Very weird problem, I upgraded to Windows 10 and didn't change anything. Now, when I stream (I use OBS (Open Broadcaster Software) and mainly stream CS:GO) my cpu will go to 100% which means that the game lags on OBS, but is fine for me. So my viewers see lag, and I do not. It also causes various other issues to do with plugins on the OBS program.

Idle my CPU is on around 1-10%, putting on OBS, it will fluctuate between, 10-39% and then when I play CS:GO or any other game, it goes up to 95-100% cpu and doesn't drop lower. This is for even on games where they are less CPU dependant.

I have updated all drivers possible and done everything I feel I can. I am now stuck! It was never the case this would happen on Windows 8.1, even when I was using higher settings than I do now (i reduced settings on OBS to see if it helped).

My Specs:

CPU: Intel i5 3570k @ 4ghz
MOBO: Asus Sabertooth Z77
GFX: EVGA GTX 970 4GB SSC
SSD: Crucial M4 250GB x 2
MONITORS: BenQ XL2411T & ASUS VE247H
KEYBOARD: Corsair K95 Vengeance
MOUSE: Zowie FK1
HEADSET: SteelSeries Siberia v2 WHITE

I hope someone can help!

Thanks in advance.

Yes I'm on the latest version 0.655b

Encoder is set to x264 ultrafast. Have tried super and very fast. Resolution is 720@30fps

I have a myriad of game and window capture. I've tried game capture and monitor capture for the games. I use monitor when not in a game so viewers can see it what I'm doing, but it's not a global source and turned off when playing games.

I am not sure if it is specifically OBS or not. I still get 60-70% CPU usage when playing any games, the most is on CSGO. Obviously with OBS on at the same time, it goes to 100% and is consistently high. No alterations.

Weird, I don't have the same problem at all. You could always use quicksync in the meantime for a chip such as an i5. The quality isn't that bad compared to x264 encoder if you are streaming at 3500 kbps.

Disable multicore rendering for cs:go as it will drop your cpu usage by a boatload.

How do I set up this quick sync feature? Anything to get OBS to stop being such a hog and my games to run at a normal CPU rate.

I am grabbing an i7 6700k over the weekend so I hope this will not be an issue with this. Trying to iron out the software side of things so I can get the full potential of the new CPU.

You going to get the new motherboard and ram as well to accommodate for the CPU?
You just click quicksync instead of the x264 encoder where the max bit rate/cbr/custom buffer are.
You can try to set obs to low priority and see how that works out.
