Hi,
I have an external HDD enclosure (needs 12V, 2A),
what I want to do is power it on when the PC turns on, and power it off when the PC turns off.
so I thought, is it possible to use one of the wires from the PSU (12v & ground) to power this external enclosure, so powering on/off the PC also powers on/off the Hard drives.

any help is appreciated.

I have tried doing the same on my Intel DH67BL motherboard but some how blow it. Instead of powering the (western digital) external hdds through the wall power supply, I pulled up 12V from PSU. I am not sure why it happened but now all the USB 2.0 have gone bad. There was a lot of smoke from the cpu as soon as I turned it on. I have checked the polarity of the connections and they were good. The usb controller connected to the hdd is completely molten.
