Wireless Adapter Disabling Itself When Connecting to My New Router

I'm at my wits end, I have browsed all over the internet for a solution but nothing has worked; my adapter(s) seem to just be allergic to my new router.

A few weeks ago I upgraded my home router to an ASUS RT-N66U, which I fully expected to love, I thought it would improve gaming/streaming performance. Once the firmware updates were complete (because I know the old RT-N66U firmwares were broken), I expected it to be smooth sailing. That unfortunately hasn't been the case.

About 2 hours after I started using my new router's 5GHz band my Network adapter stopped having anything to do with my Black Knight (nickname ASUS gave their RT-N66U). Infuriatingly my WNDA4100 just started disabling itself, I tried to troubleshoot and eventually I came to the conclusion that my adapter was just worn out. So I replaced it with a Linksys AE3000.

That was fantastic for a few hours... until my Linksys AE3000 started doing the same thing. When connected to my new router, the adapter turns itself off and then tries to connect to a different network once it's back online; I tired to force it to connect to my new router by disabling it's ability to automatically connect to other networks, but now it just disables itself and retries connecting to my new router before disabling itself again about every five minutes.

I have gone through even more troubleshooting steps since buying the AE3000, Ive updated, uninstalled, and reinstalled both my ASUS router and my Linksys adapter; I've gotten on the phone with ASUS support and tweaked the settings on my router, I've disabled my adapter's ability to disable itself to save power, and most recently I've bought a USB extender to get my wireless adpater closer to my router (no i can't use Ethernet, they are on different floors). Despite all of this, both my old and new adapters the WNDA4100 and the AE3000 continue to disable themselves when I try to get them to connect to my new router.

Now sometimes, at random times, the adapters, especially the AE3000, will choose to behave properly for extended periods of time; Unplugging and re-plugging my adapter(s) seems to encourage this behavior but doesn't get consistent results.

I'm at my wits end for what could be causing this. Should I upgrade to a different version of Windows 7? Do I need a larger power supply for my router to use the 5GHz band? Is this just something wrong with my Router, it works fine with my phone? I don't use a 3rd party firewall, so that's not it. When I am am connected to my new router I get 4 to 5 bars and around 225mbps, so what the heck is wrong?

Maybe someone on here knows better than me, because I'm near to beating my head against the wall.

Thank you in advance for your help,
-Seth

I don't have any programs specifically called "Windows Security Centre" running. Would that also include Windows Defender and other Windows based security systems? I've tried disabling the windows firewall but that didn't have any effect. I also have the free version of AVAST running, but the free version apparently no longer has a firewall (or maybe it never did and that's just my imagination). I'll go look at the routers UPNP settings in just a second.

Luckily my Adapter is on one of it's good behavior streaks right now. hopefully I can figure this out though; it can keep me from gaming for long periods of time.

Thanks for the help so far.

I disabled windows defender and that seemed to help, but it has not completely eliminated the issue. When connected to the 5GHz band specifically, the adapter will still occasionally disable itself. The disabling also seems to come in fits, where it will disable itself over and over when i try to get it to work, but then sometimes it will work just fine for extended periods of time.

Could this be a virus? I've done a boot time scan with avast and nothing was found other than a corupt picture file. I also have a new issue where the computer will say it has an internet connection, but none of the applications on my computer are able to connect o the internet. A restart of my computer usually fixes this issue but it still concerns me.

Thank you in advance for the help.

My power settings are set to maximum performance. I've also disabled my adapter's ability to be shut down to save power at the start of this issue.

In my network adapter device manager, I have something called "Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller", I've also disabled it's ability to shut itself down to save power, but there are numerous settings to be messed with under the advanced tab for this device. Could there be anything here I need to mess with?

-Bump, issue still not solved-

Something new I've discovered is if I set my router's wifi to legacy mode then my adapter doesn't have any issues staying connected. The obvious downside though, is that my internet speed drops to stupid low levels. Does this give anyone any ideas on how I might fully solve this issue?

Is there anywhere I can pay someone to help me solve this issue? I've tried to take all of the devices involved to a computer repair store and they just told me they don't mess with routers. I want to use my 5GHz to play games, this is ridiculous!

You'll have a better chance of getting a good answer by posting a new question with your own details rather than resurrecting a year and a half old thread.

Although this is an old thread...
My connection also drops and then just says not connected.
When I try to reconnect it says I can't and have to reboot/sleep computer for it to reconnect.
Furthermore, disabling and reenabling does not work for me.
Here is the stupid part, I have the network adapter windows open and when I try to reconnect and fail, I can SEE the adapter disable itself and reenable quickly and then simply tell me it failed to connect. This is when I just sleep it for a sec and everything is just dandy. Except for the precious seconds I lose everything this happens.

Exact same problem with my linxys running win 8.1. God knows I have tried everything. Settings, drivers, configuration changes and nothing helps. Would pay good money just to fucking know what the hell is wrong with my fcking wifi adapter.
