I may have the so-called "Black Screen Of Death".

I have Windows 7, and have an HP PC. (It's a desktop, I don't if this even matters so...)

I have a Geforce GTX 750 TI , and when I start my PC, I usually press F8. It would bring up a black screen. There is information on this screen, it tells me all about my graphics card. After about a minute and a half, the screen goes all black for a second, and then a white underscore appears in the top left side of my monitor.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks.

(Pressing F12 has worked a few times, and when it does work, it brings up letters and numbers that are scrambled all across my screen. Then again, it doesn't work everytime.)

HP usually uses F1,F2 or delete to go to bios. When you start the pc, start mashing the F1 key. If Windows starts, you missed it, manually turn off the pc (hold power button for more than 5 seconds, it'll shut down). Try again mashing F2 instead. If that fails, try again with delete. Resetting bios is usually F5, then look as darkbreeze said, and hit F10 to save and exit. Failing to use F10 will result in no save of anything and you'll have to start all over.
Why do you usually press F8, has this issue been happening for a long time? Having you been pressing F8 as a regular practice to start your machine?

This sounds like either a driver issue or a problem with an incompatible boot partition, possibly from an older installation.

Have you reinstalled the operating system, on a different drive, at any point, and still have the other drive that originally had the OS on it attached to the system? I'd probably start by resetting the bios to default configuration settings and then go from there. Removing the cmos battery is one option, but possibly just going into the bios and pressing whichever key your machine has designated for optimal defaults is a good place to start.

I usually press F8, or F12 just because they've both worked for me in the past. I had this issue ever since I've had the graphics card, but I would press F8, and it would start up without a problem. (This was the first few months I had the graphics card).

I have not done any of your suggestions, but I will try.

Thanks.

Try looking in the bios for a setting called CSM, or compatibility support module. If it's enabled, disable it. If it's disabled, enable it. Since this started with the introduction of your graphics card, I'm thinking perhaps it's a UEFI based GPU card and possibly you do not have a system new enough that it has a UEFI bios, or is simply NOT in UEFI mode, due to being a Windows 7 system.

How do I get to the bios? If I have to do it on startup, I can't. Thanks

(By the way, I found a picture of the screen)

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

As soon as I mashed F1, it gave me the boot menu, and I booted my computer up with my graphics card in it. Thank you.
