my laptop cant read my usb flash drive dongle it reads as gibberish

i have a new laptop but need to update my cv, when i put in my usb dongle to do so it comes up with giberish, what do i need to do as this is an important task

First try it with another computer. Is it the file that is corrupt or is nothing in the drive seen? If the file, it may just be corrupt, but there is no good way or recovering it. You can probably find it in another place on the computer, or in an email you sent.

Do not keep single copies of files on a flash drive, they are not very reliable due to how they get handled, and the flash RAM can go bad also, they are there for backups and to move files from system to system.
