Hi,

I couple days ago I found out that my PC didn't have a legit version of windows 7. So I bought myself a legit windows 7 key but I don't know how to enter it. I don't know how I should go about reactivating the code or resetting windows 7 as a whole to remove the pirated version. Thanks in advance!

Solution
This is how you change the product key.

Open up an elevated command prompt (as administrator), type in "slui.exe 3" then a box will pop up to enter your new product key.

Because pirated versions of any software always come with little bits of extra that know one wants on their computer. Unless you hacked the software and know its clean, just do a fresh install and be happy.

He is unable to change the key, probably due to hacked software removing everything related to activation etc.

he didnt say he is unable to change it. he said he doesnt know how to change it... did you even read the same post?

Did you?

Also, clean installing and getting rid of some hacked version is probably the way to go. You never know.

when in windows, logged in as administrator, do this:
1. press windows key and R simultaneously (this will open a 'run' screen)
2. type 'cmd' (this will open a command/dos screen)
3. in the command screen type "slui.exe 3" as described by saywhut
4. in the new screen type your new product key
