Very poor performance on games with low requirements?

A week or so ago I bought an HP Omen gaming laptop, and performance was great at first. I was able to max out everything I threw at it with very smooth framerates. Now, however, the framerates for all of my games are so bad that they've become unplayable. To give you an idea of how bad the performance is, the laptop is struggling to run The Sims 4, which is clearly a game with extremely low requirements, at lowest settings. It has 8GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-4710HQ CPU @2.50GHz, and a Geforce GTX 860m with 2gb vRAM. I've tried installing new drivers but that didn't change anything. I know that the laptop isn't ridiculously powerful or anything but the fact that it can't seem to run anything despite being advertised as a "gaming laptop" is more than disappointing.

I'm new to gaming on computers so if the solution to this problem is an obvious or easy one, I apologize.

sims 4 is harder to run than you think. But you should be able to run it at it's lowest settings.
It's possible your laptop isn't using it's graphics card to run the sims and is using the integrated graphics instead.
Try to go into the BIOS and see if there is a way to disable the integrated graphics, this will mean your laptop will only use the GPU, which will lower it's battery life.

I already have the integrated graphics disabled for all games. The laptop automatically switches between using the integrated graphics and the graphics card depending on what program you're using. The Sims ran perfectly fine at ultra the first day I got it, it was only a couple days later that the slow down began.
