Hey guys,

This is the final version of my first build. I have done a LOT of research, and while there is always more to learn, I feel confident moving forward with this build. I previously had an 850 euro build here, and I got some great advice from many people so I want to thank them for taking the time to give me valuable feedback. At this point, I have set my budget at 950 euros or $1060 according to Google. The rig will be for 1080p gaming at max settings and also for general browsing/editing/school work/media centre, one could say an all purpose system with a focus on gaming.

Here is the final version:
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K
CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition
Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600 2x4GB kit
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO M.2 120GB
HDD: WD Desktop Blue 1TB 7200 rpm
GPU: MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming 4G OC
PSU: Cooler Master V650 80+ Gold
Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced

Coming in at 935 euros, it's not bad at all. It's under budget, although only barely. All the prices are from www.computeruniverse.net which is a really great site. They deliver everywhere and while it's a German site, they have everything in English too. Prices here are definitely cheaper than Amazon.de. For example the MSI GTX 970 is 304 euros, down from 344.54. That's an 11% discount! Even with additional dispatch charges of 18 euros to Switzerland, it does not compare with the Amazon price of 368 euros (338.72 for a second hand card, but hell no) You may have to sign up (for free) to see the nice discounts though.

I know that for my first pc build, I shouldn't/don't need to overclock, especially at just 1080p. But I really want to learn how to do it because personally I think it will be a blast and I'm doing for the experience and enthusiasm. I'll be using and upgrading this build for a long time so I don't mind putting some money into it. The motherboard explains itself, need a Z97 chipset to overclock. The CM 212 Evo is a must have as well. Kingston for the ram, 8Gb at 1600 MHz, pretty standard. For the absolute beast of a GPU, I went with the MSI GeForce GTX 970 OC edition. I've heard good things about MSI cards, and the 970 has an excellent price to performance ratio. Side note: I would have gone with the similarly priced R9 390, but I don't need 8GBs of memory for 1080p, and I was more concerned with the increased power consumption and higher temps, especially when overclocked. The 970 that I chose is already overclocked, and I'm assuming temps won't be quite as high given it's more efficient power consumption and MSI Twin Frozr V cooling system. The other jewel of this build is the Samsung M.2 120 GB SSD, which was only a couple of euros more than the 2.5 inch version. The MSI supports M.2 so I thought why not add an ultra fast SSD? WD 1TB Blue hard drive is for mass storage of games, files, movies, music, etc. For the PSU, I went for the highly recommended Cooler Master V Series 650W 80+ Gold by dottorent's excellent PSU tier guide here. Thanks dottorent! Finally, to put all this together, I have the Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced. I went with this case for two big reasons. One being that it has a removable hard drive cage for amazing airflow from the giant 200mm front fan, one of two that are included, plus an additional 120mm rear exhaust fan. The second reason is that it has so many expansion and upgrade options that I won't need to change the case any time soon.

Whew. Sorry about the flippin' essay! I'm just really excited and I can't wait to build this amazing system. I think the only way I won't build this system is if prices dropped suddenly on the new Skylake CPUs and Z170 motherboards, which is highly unlikely. So let me know thoughts, comments, and whether any of these components wouldn't work in this config. Thanks to everyone for the amazing support!

The i5 6600k (skylake) is only a little bit more expensive. The ah heck is getting a quality mobo for the same cost as the z97 you have chosen.

Additional cost considered, I don't think it would be worth getting the skylake over the 4690k. I think you have a good system put together. (aside from that hideous monstrosity of a case you chose lol, but to each their own :p)

Monstrosity haha! That made me laugh! :D Yeah I can see why people would say that. Funnily enough, I didn't like it at first. Then I saw some builds with that case. Plus, it's extreme functionality eventually won me over and now I actually like the meshing and the indents on the front. It helps that it's a solidly built case with an entire cooling system included for roughly $90.
