My fairly new 8350 is running extremely hot with an extremely mild overclock to 4.2 with a multiplier of 21, and frequency of 200. I have voltage at 1.35 on an m5a99fx r2.0. it's running on a noctua nh-d14 cpu cooler which i just (re-applied?). Under full prime 95 load it runs at a whopping 56 * on core and ~74+ on socket. Un-overclocked it runs about 47~* on socket and 36 or so on core with p95, never going anywhere above 50 on either temp anywhere.

In terms of settings, all advanced cpu stuff (cool n quiet, hpv, c6 etc) is disabled. i'm unsure what else to really do, as i'm unsure whats actually causing the issue. The cpu itself runs fine un-overclocked, of course i just want the biggest e-peen out there with a big scary 4.5 8350 (ya'know?)

Room is properly cooled, (made sure for this test - it's about 60* in here if not lower...)

As i speak the current idle temps are in fact the exact same as they are when it's not overclocked - 36 on socket and ~20 on core

my system:
asus m5a99fx r2.0
amd 8350 (black edition)
asus direct cu ii gtx 760
noctua nh-d14 with nt-h1 thermal compound
Thermaltake toughpower 750w gold rated power supply
NZXT h440
network and sound card.

Running stock case fans.

Are you sure you did not apply to much thermal compound or two little? Not to mention cooler properly attached. If those are not the problem. Then you are unlucky, No CPU chip is the same. Some OC better than others and run cooler. While some run hotter than others.

Although i suppose it could be the case, i just find it odd how much heat is gained from such a mild overclock, i mean its +40*C for a 4.2 at stock voltage.

I could certainly try reseating the cooler, but i'm almost positive it's on correctly
