This is most likely a really dumb question, but I'm always trying to figure stuff out so I become more aware of things.

So my question is: Does anything (internet wise) improve if I have 2 Ethernet cables (coming from the same modem/hub/router/whatever) connected to a computer?

Most likely it doesn't, but it's always good to be sure... Especially if it can improve something.

unless computer has load balancing hardware/software, no.
if it has, it can use both simultaneously. Benefit of that being that tiny unless you have something like gigabit connection that can handle that double data amount.

one benefit of two ports is that you could in theory run some things like torrents on one port and other things on other, creating less of lag on other network card but... that also would need for you to have a way to specify certain apps to use only certain network port.

so.. in 99% of cases, nope, no real benefit.
