The 2700K we've overclocked to 4.9ghz

the 4670K only gets a stable 4.3ghz

I'm wondering if the stronger overclock of the 2700K bridges the gap enough in single core performance? We'll also be doing some video editing here and there, but gaming/benchmarking will be the main purpose.

Solution
This will be very close at Single thread performance 4670K will be fast at 1-4Thread by 5-7% but at 8 threads 2700K will faster by 20% :)
Simply in most games i5 will give 5%-7% more FPS but in few that have good engine i7 will have 20% more FPS
Also video-editing on i7 will be faster by 20%.

Solution
The extra .6 ghz should brige the gap nicely.

The 4th gen cpu is only marginally better then your 2nd gen, not even close to big enough of an increase to be worth the cost.

Then there is the fact that your i7 will shine where the i5 will fail, especially in video editing.
