I have the fx 6300 processor but I was wondering if I should get a amd or gtx graphics card?

FX 6300 is easy to OC. If you don't want to mess with voltages or settings, it can usually do 4.0-4.2GHz on stock voltage, without taxing your motherboard or PSU.
As for graphics cards, either will work fine with your new CPU/MoBo. It depends on your budget and the size of your case.

For $180 you should get a R9-280.
As far as AMD or Nvidia there is no brand preference just because your 6300 is AMD. It simply comes down to what card is going to give you the most performance for your budget and is balanced with your CPU's performance.

Hm... from my experience better go for GTX 960 he will give you better FPS even if I like R9 380, AMD higher end GPUs requires very strong CPUs to work at 100%, and due old design of DX11API is limited to 1 thread for GPU draw calls requests and AMD CPU have poor single thread performance.
For example if you Have FX 6350 @ 4,7Ghz + R9-290X in Witcher 3 1080P Ultra you get min/avg 22/34,2FPS but with GTX 970 54/58.6
This same CPU in GTA 5 R9-290X min/avg 22/26,9 FPS with GTX 970 27/32.5
