Hi there, I recently put together a new haswell-e system. My issue is when I boot the PC I cannot access the BIOS after hitting "Del" key. Everything works fine including the operating system itself however when I boot and try to change settings in the bios I just get a blank screen. I've narrowed the problem down to the SSD. Once I remove my OS drive (Samsung Pro 850 128GB) then BIOS boots fine, keep in mind I have a total of 5 other mechanical hdd's all of which are between 2-3tb in size but when I remove the SSD only the system boots fine into the BIOS, how can I resolve this issue? Also the sata controller is set to AHCI mode and bios is F1 stock version.

Gigabyte GA-X99-Gaming5p
CMK16GX4M4A2133C13 (16GB / 4x4GB)
i7-5930k
GTX 650

I have the slight feeling it might be the UEFI of the OS interfering with the BIOS

Have you tried updating the BIOS to the latest version? That might be what is needed to resolve the issue.

Download the latest BIOS (I wouldn't do the Beta BIOS as it might have issues), copy it to a USB drive (make sure it is formatted to FAT32), power down and unplug the SSD, put the USB into a USB port and enter the BIOS. Look for the BIOS update section and follow the instructions. After it finishes, plug the SSD in then try again and see if the problem persists.

If it does then try a different SATA cable for the SSD. If it still persists then there is a possibility that the SSD is going bad and causing the BIOS to stop loading properly.

I doubt it is the UEFI as that is just how the install is setup and supported. I can still access my BIOS with my SSD plugged in and Windows 10 installed in UEFI mode.

I don't think I'm going to update the BIOS to the BETA version

The ssd and the cable are both fine. I had a previous version of windows 10 installed on it before I upgraded to haswell E so isntead of migrating is just formatted it. But like I said I can get into windows fine I just cant access the BIOS which means the ssd is fine.

The only fix I know for this right now is installing the OS with UEFI turned off and you are going to be capable of entering the bios. But that's not an actual fix.. just a workaround.. (you need to reset the CMOS and you are probably going to be able to get inside)

Also try using a DVI or RGB cable and tell me if it works for you please! The UEFI supports max 1280x1024, so the problem we are facing is maybe caused by the GPU trying to get the max res of the TV/screen on it = black screen (I have a 1080p LED LG TV) but my GPU has only DVI and HDMI while the TV has only HDMI and RGB, so I'm unable to test that theory (RGB should work if that's the problem we are facing)
