Will Corsair HX850 work for new build with Skylake and 970?

Solution
If it's in good technical shape and into specs range, that PSU of yours will power up a 970SLI plus any CPU/MB/HDDs/SSDs/Fans you can throw at it.

850w may be too much for your build... it's a gold certified psu, it is very efficient. You may want to consider the Antec Edge 650W fully modular 80+ gold certified.

In the case you want to add a second gpu to it some time later, then ignore what I said and stick to the hx850

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I know the 850 is overkill for this build as it stands, but I do plan on getting another 970 at some point. Plus I already have this PSU on hand from a previous build so just trying to recycle where I can.

When I add another 970 though, would this 850 be able to deliver enough power?

Good to know! It was used for about 7 or 8 months or so in another build, but she's been sitting dormant for about a year. Is there a way to test its condition?

Well its possible to test the PSU for degrading but its difficult and expensive. Most psu comes with 5 years of warranty or more so I wouldnt be considered at all with its ability to perform. I have sli 970 on my evga 850w and I don't have any issues. It never gets close to that number on full load.
