Using an external HDD as Internal Sata problem

I have a 2TB external hard drive, but recently, I just built my new computer and figured I could attach it via Sata. After dissembling the outer shell of the external, there's just a regular 3.5" Drive inside.

However, when I do this, the drive shows up as completely empty, and requires a format. I was worried I lost all my content, but when I plug the drive in through USB, my stuff is still there.

Does this mean I can't use my external drive as an internal drive? If I can, what would I need to do?

Hi there Yaqzan,

What is the make and the model of the drive. This could happen due to some encryption(and not only).
As the HDD is properly recognized when attached externally, you can just back up the data stored on it. After that, you can attach it internally and reformat it.

Cheers,

It's a Seagate barracuda. Also that's a great idea, though time consuming, but if all else fails, I'll go with that option
