I have an ASUS M5A99FX Pro R2.0 with a FX-9590 processor and 8GB of Corsair Vengeance Pro 2133mhz ram.

I am not benching what I should be and my ram keeps showing up as DDR3 @667mhz I am thinking this has something to do with it. How do I set my ram to maximize it's potential?

667 is 1333 (DDR means that data is transferred at twice the actual clock frequency).

You might have in the BIOS settings for AMD's A.M.P profiles which will automatically read the timings out of the memory and set them. If not you need to manually set the frequency and timings. Anything beyond DDR3 1600 is technically an overclock by JEDEC standards.

Might not be able to achieve the memory's rated speed with that processor from what I understand of X99 chipsets and FX chips. 2133 is sometimes supported when using only two sticks. 1866 is the nominal maximum when using 4 sticks.

I am using only 2 sticks (2x4GB). How do I overclock it? I know where the settings are in the BIOS I am just not sure what to change. Anything faster than what it is currently will be great.
This is the full ram spec: Corsair Vengeance Pro Series 8GB DDR3-2133 PC3-17000

Should I have "cool n quiet" always enabled, disabled, or disabled by cpu??

Is there a "program" or software that is preferable to use for overclocking? It seems scattered. Some on the bios settings, some on MSI Afterburner and some on Catalyst Control Center... Is there a tool I can use for an "all in one"?

Should I have "cool n quiet" always enabled, disabled, or disabled by cpu??

If you have a Dual-Channel Ram kit The indication is only for the one stick So if we multiply that by 2 it is 1334MHz So you need to set your clocks right in your bios.
Edit: Your CPU and motherboard must be compatible with that speed 2133MHz (check your mobo AND cpu specs to make sure)

????????? Dual channel has nothing to do with this - in your example you cite 667, that is the true freq of the DRAM, since this is DDR (DOUBLE data rate) you take true freq 667 x 2 = effective data rate (1333). It has nothing to do with dual channel - whether you run one stick or two in dual or three in tri channel or 4 in quad channel it's still 1333

Yeah I get that... But to what settings? I have made changes and it freezes up.. I need some baselines to start from or some type of method that works...
