Hello!

Specs:

GPU : Gigabyte Nvidia Gtx 960 Windforce 2 OC PCI-E Graphics Card
HD : WD 1TB 3.5 inch Internal Hard Drive - Caviar Blue

RAM: HyperX FURY Series 8GB (2x 4GB) DDR3 1866MHz CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit - White

MOBO : ASRock 980DE3/U3S3 Motherboard Socket (AM3+, AMD RX881/760G+SB710, DDR3, S-ATA 600, ATX, 1x PCI Express 2.0x16, 8 Core CPU)

CPU : AMD FX6300 Black Edition 6 Core (3.5/4.1GHz, 8MB Level 3 Cache, 6MB Level 2 Cache, Socket AM3+, 95W, Retail Boxed)

MOUSE : Razer Deathadder Re-Spawn 3500DPI Gaming Mouse

MOUSE MAT : Razer Goliathus Omega Control Mouse Mat Fragged

KEYBOARD : Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard

For the past 6 months I have been having PC shutdowns. They are extremely frustrating. I found out what has been causing them but can't find a way to solve it. I upgraded to a AMD FX-6300, I was told by my friends it was a good budget gaming CPU. They were right but for me it kept shutting down. I am sick and tired of this and need to get it solved.

Things I have tried:

Removing all dust
Making sure all cables are plugged in
Getting new thermal paste (Removed with Arctic Silver ArctiClean Thermal Material Remover & Surface Purifier 60ml Kit and cotton buds and fibre cloth to remove excess fluff, and Arctic Cooling MX-4 4g Thermal Compound Little dot in the middle method)

I have reached temperatures up to 85c and I know that could also damage the parts. (I play CSGO and minecraft is harder to run than that.)

Thanks in advance,
0cN

Edit: I have to take my case off to play anything. I know this is bad but I can't do anything with it on

Solution
Its a good 120mm blower cooler mate - like the Pallas but smaller.
Yes it'll do the job mate.

To be honest I live in the UK (midlands) 6 miles away from 2 major cities & there is absolutely nowhere to buy components from in a physical shop nowadays - all the little retailers are gone which is a shame.

Could you recommend any cases? I'm on a budget so I can't spend too much -_-

You know for sure the CPU overheats because it throttles (the speed drops to 1.4 GHz) and the thermal margins in AMD Overdrive are 0°C at full load? It also shuts down if you run Prime95 Small FFTs? If not, what happens if you run Furmark Burn-in test or a similar GPU stress test?

I'm sure it's the CPU. I have HWMonitor on when I play and I alt tab out or when I finish playing, I can sometimes see 85c. I've seen up to 88 max

My GPU fan isn't spinning. I have Gigabyte Nvidia Gtx 960 Windforce 2 OC PCI-E Graphics Card but I've heard it's normal... If I had them on constant would it help?

If it doesn't spin, it's the gpu not working properly?

btw do gpu stress test or cpu burner?

It went past 75c and didn't turn GPU fans on....

Let it run until the fans start or the system shuts down. The CPU most likely had nothing to do with your shutdown issue.

Edit: I presume you are monitoring the GPU temperature while running Furmark.

It turned off without the fans coming on. Ehmmmm

So you now know the issue is the GPU and not the CPU. Duplicating an issue by stress testing one component at a time makes it a lot easier to figure out the issue. In this case replacing your CPU cooler wouldn't help, but getting the GPU fan fixed could certainly help.

Are you sure that you never made changes to the GPU configuration that could affect the fans? If not, then the GPU really is defective.

I haven't done anything to it. Should I try resetting it? Or should I reset my bios or something?

On startup the fans are on... Is there a tweaker to change the settings or something? btw I set bios to defaults.
