Good CPU cooler for extreme overclocking?

Hey,
I'm planning on getting the ASUS Maximus V Formula z77 motherboard within 3-4 weeks for my build. Right now I have in my possession the Noctua NH-14 cooler and I'm just wondering if there's a good liquid cooling CPU cooler out there I could use. However, is my Noctua good enough for extreme overclocking? And is the i7-3770k a good processor upgrade? Or should I just stick to the i5-2500k I have already? Thanks in advance!

My specs are:
CPU: i5-2500k @3.3Ghz
MOBO: (planning to buy ASUS Maximus V Formula z77)
RAM: 10Gb dual-channel
PSU: Antec 650W
Cooler: Noctua NH-14
Case: Enermax Ostrog GT mid-tower

Your noctua NH0D14 is as good as it gets for an air cooler, and is comparable in performance to all in one liquid coolers costing much more.

If you will overclock, go ahead as well as you can with what you have.
You will usually run out of your voltage safety level before you run into a temperature limit.

If your main usage is gaming, realize that most games are graphics limited.
A graphics card upgrade might be your first choice.

If your usage is multithreaded apps, then a I7-3770K is a good upgrade

Today, I would not be upgrading a motherboard to old tech.
If your cpu budget can handle $250 or so for a cpu, buy a I5=6600K and a Z170 motherboard.

Hey,
Thanks for the quick replay! I appreciate that! So what I'd like to know is if there's a liquid CPU cooling method that's just as good as the Noctua NH-14, but quieter? I find the Noctua to be a little loud for my liking. At the moment I have a MSI Nvidia 560Ti Twin Frozr II @ 1Gb, but plan on upgrading to a EVGA GTX 960 @ 4Gb in the near future. So is the i5-6600 and Z170 a good combo? I went on PC part picker and picked these:
- i5 6600k lga 1151
- Asus Maximus VIII Hero
- Corsair H110GT CPU cooler (liquid)
- Corsair RM750i 750 watts PSU
- G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 16GB DDR4-2400
- EVGA GeForce GTX 960

However, when I go to choose the Enermax Ostrog GT mid tower case I have (http://www.amazon.ca/Enermax-Computer-Acrylic-See-Thru-ECA3280A-BR/dp/B00BKX75YA), it says it's not compatible. Is there a liquid CPU cooler I can get for my case? I just want something that cools about or greater than my Noctua NH-14 and something that's quiet.
Also, is it better to stick with the Asus Z170 or go for the Asus Maximus VIII Hero? I'm not sure.

I'm sorry for so many questions. I just want to be sure, you know? Thanks in advance!

The NH-D14 will be quieter than any liquid cooler.
Noise comes from fast spinning fans.
The 140mm fans on the noctua spin slower than liquid cooler fans.
And... Noctua comes with several low noise adapters that can make the cooler inaudible.

If you have a noise problem, look to other fans in your case to identify the source.
A case is a prime opportunity to be more quiet.
The fans on your graphics card need to spin faster to cool, partly because they are dumping heat into your case.

- No, i was not already overclocking; i will be when i get my new mobo and processor.
- My old HP motherboard is damaged and didn't have overclocking options for it.
- I'm going with the GTX 960 because I've checked all the parts I'll already be getting is too expensive so I have to budget for the video card; I also think ATI is garbage so I'd never go with that, sorry.
- Also it's hard to find a decent LGA 1155 socket type mobo anymore so I'm gonna upgrade to the LGA 1151 they have out.

I already have my heart dead set on my new parts, but thanks for the advice.

-I'm a little confused cause people's been telling everyone on the other forums and telling me that the Corsair H100i GTX is slightly more quieter than the Noctua NH-14 cooler.
- I've heard that using the noise adapters is never a good thing, although I've never tried them out. (after I initially installed my Noctua on my HP motherboard I damaged the pins where the socket goes and left my computer inoperable)
- ^ that's why I'm getting a new motherboard and processor from the LGA 1155 series ASAP.

Yeah, I suppose you're right about that. Just that I was planning on getting a new combo mobo/processor and give my friend the 2500k processor and then he'll buy a LGA 1155 mobo for it. However, if I were to still do that for my friend and get myself a LGA 1155 2500k cpu, it's rare to find online these days. It's like they're ancient lol As for the Noctua heat sink, I'm gonna go with the Corsair H100i GTX this time around cause I've heard great things about it so far.

PS: I've been looking the 2500k cpu online and i can only find them on Amazon Canada for $591!!!! That's insane! It's cheaper for me to go with the LGa 1151 cpu and motherboard cause the LGA 1151 mobo i have picked out is actually cheaper than the ASRock z77 extreme4 mobo i found on Newegg Canada. So seems to be that I'll be sticking with my original plan. But I do need to know if getting the Corsair H100i GTX for my cpu cooler is a better choice than the Noctua NH-14 I have?

PSS: I managed to find some of the 2500k processors on Ebay for cheap, but I'm afraid to buy them in case I get them and there's a problem with it. What do you think I should do?

Because I was gonna give that 2500k to my friend who needs one and just get another 2500k or higher for myself when I get my new motherboard. Anyway. I'm moving on lol! I need your opinion on LGA 1150 motherboard brand names. Which is a good brand name to get for the lga 1150 type? Just wondering.
