Hi

So i suddenly started experiencing multiple FPS drops in games. (I am talking about serious FPS drops for example from 200 FPS to 30 FPS and from 60 FPS to 5 FPS) I am running windows 10 with 2GB Nvidia Geforce 840M and intel graphics 4400 and intel core i7 @ 2.00 GHz. I have set my default card to be the Nvidia card. I suspect it is either from a virus or from a damaged GPU.
P.S. my graphics card's drivers are updated.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Did you experience these problems before you updated to windows 10? If not, it's probably bad driver support and you need to wait for a fix, or roll back to your previous OS in the meantime.

For example, yesterday I ran the 3dmark GPU test and the frame rate was terrible. But today the test ran at 36 FPS. Is this also a driver problem?
Also my games were running at a good frame rate even after the windows 10 upgrade. The problem only started recently.

How are your temperatures? Have you checked for dust buildup? Also, I would try and reinstall the graphics driver, this time without geforce experience and see how that goes.

I presume those temperatures are for the gpu? I would also check the CPU temperatures as well to be sure.

I really doubt these are load temperatures unless you got an old laptop with good cooling. Which software are you using for measuring temps?

Edit: And have you checked to see if you have enabled any power-saving features by accident, as this does severely affect perfomance. And what games are you currently playing when experiencing problems?

What game you get these drops specific. This kind of huge drops cant be from temperature alone from 200 to 5 is like your gpu shutdown and now the game plays on intel or ur cpu throttled to 500mhz. Temperatures throttle down hardware but 50% or so so you wouldn't lose 95% of ur fps. I ask for specific games cause with ur 2gb vram if u play like say gta 5 and that vram will fill up it loads the textures on ur system ram and that would destroy ur fps completely. If you play open world games even your disk could be the problem cause it loads the textures on the fly with no loading screens... so if ur disk would be slow fps will throotle so much to be able to load the new textures. So what games u play exactly when this happen?

The two games that i play the most are Warframe from 60 to 5 FPS and recently from 60 FPS 1.5 FPS. The other game i play is Crossfire it is like a lightweight counter strike replica with poor graphics and still my FPS drops from 200 FPS to 30 FPS and sometimes even less.

Hi,

So turns out the intel driver (my PC has both intel and Nvidia) was outdated and windows update didn't update it. and once i updated it the problem disappeared well at least till now. Thank you all for your support. I really appreciate it.
