HI to all,

Couple of days ago my WD NAS Drive 3TB stop working and i reset it using the reset button, but when i plug to my router, it did not show up. so I log in to router and find it was not there.
so i disassemble the NAS and tried to connect to Windows system to make back up of the stuff inside it. before installing the new firmware manually.

but the HDD did neither show up in the bios nor in disk management however i can feel it spinning.
HDD inside the NAS was WD green desktop drive 3TB.

any suggestions please.

Thanks in advance.

Hey there, Gparmar!

I'm sorry to hear about your issues with the WD NAS. :( Unfortunately, removing the hard drive from, a Western Digital single unit external enclosure, will void the warranty. You can check the warranty policy and limitations here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=BwDxby
What is the model of your WD NAS? Keep in mind that updating the firmware should be done through the enclosure, though.
Have you checked Disk Management? Does the WD Green appear there and what's its file system?

Keep me posted!

Hi SuperSoph_WD,
thanks your reply, I opened the enclosure because i there was no ssh access or the graphical access through the web.
Right now I don't care about warranty issues, it's My book live 3tb edition. When I opened it there actual hdd was WD Green cavair 3TD desktop hard drive inside the enclosure. I don't know about the file system never checked it.

I have about 1.8 tb of data in that drive that's is my problem. I did check the disk management and control panel devices but it didn't show up there and budget did in BIOS.

ANY IDEAS will be very thank full

Thanks again

Hi again, Gparmar!

I'd recommend you putting the drive back in the enclosure and try troubleshooting from there. Once you have it inside, connect the NAS to the router and try to configure it on your PC. In order to do that, you'd need to delete the software and re-install it altogether from scratch: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=uDSUgz
Make sure that everything is up-to-date. (software & firmware) If it gets detected, it's also highly recommended to run WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics to determine the health and SMART data of the WD Green. You should run both the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the utility here: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=lz8aQA

Keep me posted with the results.
