Memory slot problems - CPU or motherboard?

I recently put together an LGA 2011 build. I'm using a 4830k on an Asus x79-Deluxe using the quad channel kit Trident X f3-2400c10q-16gtx.

I have a problem with memory channel C-1 and C-2. The BIOS will report a DRAM error with any module installed in either of the C memory channel slots. No information on the error itself, it only reports that there is a problem. The memory installed in those slots is not reported to the operating system.

I have a spare Corsair 6Gb triple channel kit + 1 2Gb module. The motherboard also reports the exact same problem with that kit, DRAM error in slot C1 or C2. Any dual and triple channel configuration using memory channels A, B and D work fine with both sets of RAM.

I've checked for bent pins and found none, although I can't confirm anything since I don't have a magnifying glass. I looked at the underside of the CPU, looks like all of the contact marks are spot on.

So whats the likelyhood that the CPU is bad? My first action is the RMA the motherboard, but the fact that BOTH memory slot C1 and C2 are bad, that makes me pause. If this were a pin or component issue, one would think the problem would hit one slot, not both. Thoughts?

Solution
Sounds like a mobo problem with the sockets, might try blowing them out with compressed air. Also might try loosening you CPU cooler then snug it back down, if two tight in a corner or side it can throw your MC (memory controller in the CPU) off
