This is just a touch over budget but should be good for medium/high settings on those games I think.

That motherboard needs to have an up to date BIOS otherwise it might not work with that CPU, I'd e-mail the store to check with them before buying.

EDIT: If you have any questions about why I chose any of these, let me know.

would i be better off going with Intel or AMD?

At this budget your options are the AMD FX-4300, Intel i3-4160, Intel Pentium G3258 or AMD Athlon 860K. All roughly similar price/performance.

The FX probably gives the weakest performance of the 4 and some games are starting to not even start unless you have a quad core (Windows sees an i3 as a quad core due to hyperthreading). So even though the Pentium has amazing price/performance for gaming, that rules that out. For that reason I would have gone for the Athlon or the i3 and the Athlon doesn't seem to be available in Aus.

EDIT: It is only one or two games that don't start on a standard dual core at the moment though, if you don't mind about that an overclocked 3258 would wipe the floor with the rest of these CPU's and is much cheaper.

For an extra $150 or so that would give much better gaming performance and you'd have a newer motherboard that may be a bit more stable and offer more features like faster USB ports and better quality sound etc.
