My i7-4790K works fine with my Asus Hero Vi without a Bios update.

Hello, About 3 months ago I replaced my mobo and CPU to a Z87 Asus Maximus Vi Hero, with an i7-4790K. I am quite the PC noob when it comes to hardware - especially MoBos. And it wasn't until 3 days ago when I tried to Steam Broadcast and I got a BSOD about the secondary processor, that I looked into BIOS. It was there that I found that an i7-4790K requires Bios 1504 to be able to boot. However, my BIOS is only 1407. Why does mine run? It's been running near perfect for 3 months now. (With the odd crash on high intensive games, but that could be down to the GPU that I had to replace.)

Should I be worried? I read that you can't upgrade the intel ME and the Bios without a non-devil's canyon CPU first, which I don't have. Is using it without the BIOS update a ticking time bomb?

Thanks in advance.

not updating your bios can cause problems but it doesnt mean the system won't boot. it means the board isnt supporting certain features of your cpu which could cause the problems you are having. your issues wont become worse by not updating. you can update the bios regardless of what chip you have and i would strongly recommend doing so in your situation. it seems you may have received incorrect information.
