The i5 6600k is only a little faster than the 4690k. It certainly doesn't "destroy it"

I did choose the WD Blue.

No need for skylake for this rig. Get a better GPU with the money if its for gaming.

So you recommend he skip the case? lol

Not a bad choice though. I wouldn't bother with the 980 unless you are using a 1440p or higher monitor.

haha yeah he don't need a case!! run that bad boy on a shelf!!

-On a serious note though, go with an i5 4460 or 4590. Leaning more towards 4590. There's no need for a more expensive CPU. Spend the money elsewhere. :D

have a read of this article xExoticYousifx: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,review-32901-3.html

The 4460 is a very strong contender, and in day to day gaming you wouldn't see much of a difference, between 4460 and 4590. But they are only $10 apart and the 4590 has some features the 4460 does not. So its decision time! :D

I'll second CT's opinion on overclocking in your case, it's not needed.

The list is good, don't buy the CPU cooler, you don't need one. That will save you some cash.
Keep the Z97. If down the line you want to buy a K series processor you will already have the motherboard for it.

Regarding the GTX 980, get one only if you can afford it. A 980 will be more future proof, but a 970 will still be a excellent purchase for your 1080p build. All 980's from Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, EVGA are great so get whatever is cheapest, or is in your preferred colour or is in a design you like.
