Newer, better PSU slowing down my rig?

I recently bought a new PSU after my previous one burnt out. However, something weird is going on with the new PSU - ever since I upgraded, my computer, at least when I'm playing games, seems to be slower. I'm not sure why, because I haven't changed any settings, and as far as I know the PSU is better than the previous one.

My previous PSU was the SeaSonic Bronze 520W PSU.

My new PSU is the Corsair CX 850W PSU.

My graphics card is a Radeon R9 280x. (not the one seen)

Any ideas about what could be happening?

Would you be able to recommend any higher-tier PSUs just going by the cost and wattage of the CX ($120/850W)?

My CPU's an AMD FX 8300 8-core, and I only use 1 video card.

$20 mail-in rebate. But $99 is still a good price for that PSU or the G2 version.

Alright, one last question for all of you - can more than just the PSU's wattage affect, say, how well the computer handles gaming? As in, can other parts of the PSU affect it?

Also, is it normal for new PSUs (the SeaSonic in this case) to burn out around 2 months after first getting it?
