Hi. I'm new here and I actually just created an account just for my problem. So please forgive me if this is in the wrong category or if I'm missing some details (please let me know and I'll gladly provide them) 'cause I'm getting real desperate here. Also, before you suggest that I post this question on the Microsoft forum instead, I've already tried that but I keep getting errors. So please go easy on me and help me if you can. :(

So here's what happened:

I've had my PC for more than 2 and a half years now with a copy of Windows 7 Professional 64bit that I'm pretty sure is genuine. Last night, I upgraded my OS to Windows 10 but ended up going back to Windows 7 because I was encountering errors and such and it was getting to be a real pain. Now that I've "restored my previous build", Microsoft is suddenly saying that my copy of Windows 7 is "not genuine" even though it is. I found out that Win 7 isn't activated so I tried doing so by going to System Properties and clicking "Activate Windows Now", and I see my product ID and everything, but whenever I type my product key (which I recovered from the registry since I don't have the sticker), the validation stops midway and I get the error code 0xC004E003 or "The Software Licensing Service reported that license evaluation failed". And before you tell me to try the telephone method or do SLUI 4, I don't get those options (and I don't think the telephone method is supported in my country anyway). I only get these options:
(a) Buy a new product key online,
(b) Type a different product key, and
(c) Contact Microsoft to help resolve this problem.

So how do I fix this problem? How do I get through the validation without encountering any more problems?

I also don't have any restore points, so I guess suggesting to do a System Restore is out.
Another thing: I'm hoping there would be a solution wherein I wouldn't have to do a clean reinstallation of Windows 7 since I don't have a copy of Windows 7 and I really don't want to have to buy one or pay someone else to do it for me (since I'm just a poor college student) and also because it's very time-consuming, and that won't do since I need my computer all the time for school works. But if that's the only way *sigh* then I have no choice.

Please help me. Thanks in advance.

Solution
That key is burned into every 10 disk. It's only working because you previously activated 10 on that machine.

If you just hit skip every time it asks for a key, it uses that key anyway.
What type of PC do you have? If it's a store-bought one (e.g. HP, Lenovo), the product key found in the registry is a generic key that requires the right certificate in the BIOS.

If that's the case, you'll need either the original HP/Lenovo disks which can read the certificate in the BIOS, or the sticker with the backup key on it.

I suspect you'll need to use the 'contact microsoft to help resolve this problem' button - that might be phone activation.

(Sorry if I sound ignorant :(()
Well, it's not a pre-built PC. It's a desktop that my uncle built. And if it's worth mentioning, I also used KeyFinder to check my product key. :/

As unfortunate as it is, a lot of people are running copies of Windows that are not genuine and they don't even know it.
If your uncle used an OEM license to register the Windows that may be the cause of the issue. Otherwise I would think that the copy of Windows 7 you were running was not authentic.

Uhh, I went to the link you gave me and chose option 2 and ran the downloaded legitcheck.hta, but I'm not sure what you meant by "report". Though a window did open up saying that "Windows has not yet been activated with a genuine product key" and below are the options to buy Windows 7 or Troubleshoot.

hmmm but what is an "OEM license"? And what would you suggest I do?

My uncle did. So you think it's pirated? That's... strange. My uncle is actually a computer technician by profession and is very meticulous, so it would seem weird that he wouldn't have an authentic copy... And also, like I've said, I've had this PC since 2012 and not once did Microsoft prompt me that my copy wasn't genuine. Only until after I downgraded back to Win 7 from Win 10 this morning. Is that odd or is that sort of thing more likely to happen than I thought?

I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 Pro and rolled back to 7 again after not happy with the Start Menu.

I then decided to try Windows 10 again but found the key didn't work. After several keys I found a key that eventually work with 10. Here it is VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T

Hope this helps with 10 if you go back. There is a program called classicshell that replaces the Windows 10 Start Menu with 7 menu.
