I was going to go with a Seagate Barrecuda 2TB for my hard drive as its cheap, but I read a few articles which said they weren't reliable at all. Is this true?

The data that is out there sure seems to show that.

I quit using Seagate drives decades ago. I first noticed that they seemed to die a lot sooner than my other branded drives, and this was back in the 1980s. Then I started a company in the 1990s, and at the request of some clients, we installed lots of Seagate drives, but only for those clients. Everyone else got other brands. After a year, I looked at the replacement rates, and Seagate was up on top by a lot. So I quit selling them, even on request.

The data I mentioned at this top on this message is recent. In fact, the latest posting they did was early this year, on data from last year. Seagate had by far the highest failure percentages.

For years now, I have only bought HGST...

For years now, I have only bought HGST, Toshiba or Western Digital hard drives.
And when it comes to SSD's the only brand I buy is Samsung.
