So right now i have a Z77 Pro3 and an i5 2500, and im thinking of upgrading to a Z97 Extreme4 and a i7 4790K. Is it worth the upgrade? As this is a pretty pricy upgrade, but i've seen a couple of reviews of how the Z97 Extreme has a lot of upgrade-abilty, for example my current motherboard has a 1155 socket, which doesn't have alot of good CPU's, and as i am big into Arma and DayZ (both of them use alot of CPU instead of GPU) i got the idea to upgrade.

No the upgrade isn't worth it and I think you're mistaken on the technology improvements. Moving from an i5 to an i7 will give you hyperthreading. Moving from a Sandy Bridge CPU to a Haswell could give you roughly 15-20% performance improvement. That's really not worth the cost for an upgrade. Also considering that Sandy Bridge GPUs are fantastic overclockers. Finding a second hand 2700k or 3770k would be a great option if you wanted to upgrade.

Arma and DayZ really can be pickles because of poor optimization.
