I've been following the graphical Hierarchy chart on toms hardware for quite awhile waiting to upgrade but there are only 4 cards above mine to upgrade to. My concern is that the next batch of cards might work better with whatever Direct X that came with Windows 10 and possibly be more optimized for 4k (Planning on upgrading my monitor as well sometime soon or get a 2nd one anyways) although i'm not planning on upgrading to Windows 10 for some time. Is it time to upgrade or should i wait for the next wave of cards?

I'd say maxwell seems like a very good moment to upgrade, it's quite a boost in preformance, power consumption and temperature.
At least that's how I feel about it, you can always wait and see when the next best thing comes out, but I'm pretty sure at that time you will have the same question again.

I just ordered the 980GTX TI, because I have quite some disposable income now that I have a job.
It really depends on what you are going to do and what your budget is.
So what you would need to ask yourself is:
- How much money are you willing to spend?
- Are you going to use multiple screens, and at what resolution?
