Graphics card supports HDMI but tower doesn't have an HDMI port (trying to connect PC to TV)

Can I connect my desktop tower to my monitor with just a VGA and then connect my monitor via HDMI to the tv HDMI port or do I need to connect my tower with a HDMI to VGA/DVI cable?

The monitor has an HDMI port, its the tower that doesn't have one.
